Redefining Nude (Dyeing)
Redefining Nude is the thesis of Sweta Jitendra Vakani, B.F.A (University of Texas), and it is an online resource that was right at the helm of the ‘nude movement’ as it was breaking (circa 2014).
Sweta worked in dance and theatre costume departments, and like many others, found the lack of wardrobe diversity incredibly frustrating. She decided to do something quite comprehensive about it – she created an online resource of dye and paint guidelines for twenty eight different skin tones. Her thesis gives users great information about how to dye and paint fabric and shoes to match their FleshTone, and it is PERFECT for first time dyers, and for people who despise crafts. While the project has now finished (and is possibly partially obsolete due to companies like Kinetic Essentials, Mahogany Blues Dance Apparel and The Pointe People), Sweta’s thesis is still online and completely free.
