Natural Girls United was founded by Karen Byrd, a Californian mum in 2011. Karen customises dolls with ornate natural hairstyles, a service sorely needed for fashion dolls which will quite often have long straight tamed hair. Citing those alarming studies of children preferring dolls that do not look like them as an impetus for her company, some of the styles crafted by Karen include the Brown Sister Locs Doll, Short Afro Doll, the dreadlock doll and more. Natural Girls United dolls can be custom ordered, though there are also a number of dolls available to purchase directly from the website. Prices start at $80USD.
